About
Leena Viie
Leena Viie is a bellydance and fire performer, event organiser and teacher based in Mumbai, India. She has been featured in varied media articles (visit ‘In the media’ section). Her curiosity in the dance form has taken her to several countries to study with and be inspired by the best teachers across UK, USA, Egypt and Europe. She has performed various cities around India and the world including Cairo, London, Miami, New York, New Jersey, Boston.
A feminist at heart, Leena has been striving to ensure bellydance finds its true place as an art form in India – where a misogynist culture threatens its growth. She organized the World’s First Bellydance Flash Mob supported by the One Billion Rising Movement in tribute to Nirbhaya – the victim of a horrific torture and gangrape. She curated Bellydance Festivals in India. These festivals were aimed elevating Bellydance as a legitimate art form, a spiritual practice and a powerful expression of the awakened woman.
